Description:
Quick-witted and no stranger to misfortune, Maq seems right at home in the destitute town of Bik, a location so run down and inconsequential that it fails to appear on the map of Tamasuade. He has secured his influence on every corner of the town, his name a common one among its poverty-stricken citizens. It could be said that nothing happens in Bik that Maq doesn’t know about, and he has gained the trust of nearly everyone.
Though he at times seems callous, Maq is only as merciless as his conditions have required him to be. He hosts an orphanage, acting as the main parental figure for a large amount of children. The orphanage has the feeling of a community or family all its own, if a bit large and overrun. The older children often stay in the orphanage, helping Maq in gathering food or other resources, and keeping the younger orphans clean and clothed. The older orphans, notably boys such as Josh, have also been taught how to fend on the streets and fight for their own safety.
Most of the orphans Maq has gathered are human, but other creatures have found themselves orphaned in Bik and taken under Maq’s care. One of these rarities is Tora, a pale-haired Scog. Though her race is considered to be filthy and disease-bearing, Maq has given her a home and many of the younger children see her as a motherly figure.
When Zeta arrives in town, Maq is the one to tell him where he is, and assist with his quest to find an apprentice—in a way.
